Fresh fruit salad with sweet strawberries, watermelon, pineapples, and more, all topped with a refreshing honey lime basil drizzle. This is the perfect summer fruit salad for parties or just an evening pick-me-up.
What Goes in a Fruit Salad?
This is a question I often get, but it doesn’t have to be complicated. Below is a list of fruit that would be great to use! Below you’ll find my recipe, but feel free to add your favorite fruits or whatever you have on hand. Also, it’s okay to take out fruits you don’t particularly enjoy.
- oranges (I like to use mandarin slices)
Honey Lime Basil Dressing
I genuinely enjoy fruit salad but sometimes it can be a little boring. The flavors are there but they’re all individual. I wanted to make a fruit salad dressing without yogurt. I love yogurt as much as the next girl but nothing beats refreshing fruit on a steaming summer evening.
After a little thought, I decided to go with lime, basil, and honey for the dressing. Each component brings something different and needed to the recipe. Also, if you’re wondering what to put in a fruit salad to keep it from turning brown, this dressing is the answer!
- Honey-It brings sweetness to the recipe without it being overpowering. In keeping with the natural vibe of this recipe, I went with honey because nothing beats nature’s sweetener.
- Lime- I was introduced to the idea of adding freshly squeezed lime juice to watermelon by a dear Haitian friend of mine. It’s been a must ever since. When I thought of this recipe, I wanted something to brighten the flavors and add a zing! Lime was a no-brainer!
- Basil- Although it may sound odd, basil pairs well with this salad. The fresh herbaceous flavor that basil brings is so needed.
