1 stick of butter (melted)
1 cup of sugar
1/4 cup vegetable oil
2 eggs
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 cup cocoa powder
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 1/2 cups + 1 tbsp cup flour
1/4 cup milk
1/4 cup hot water
Chocolate Ganache Ingredients
8 oz chocolate bar roughly chopped, or chocolate chips
1 cup heavy cream or heavy whipping cream
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and prepare your loaf pan.
- In a bowl, combine the melted butter, sugar, and vegetable oil until smooth.
- Add 2 eggs, one at a time, and the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, combine the baking powder, baking soda, salt, cocoa powder, and flour.
- Use a rubber spatula to add the dry ingredients and milk to the wet ingredients. Alternate between adding the dry ingredients and milk to the wet ingredients, mixing in between.
- Add the hot water to the batter.
- Pour the batter into the loaf pan and bake for 45-55 minutes or until it passes the toothpick test. DO NOT OVERBAKE.
Chocolate Ganache Directions
- In a heat-proof bowl, add the chocolate. The smaller the chocolate pieces, the easier it will melt.
- In a small saucepan, heat the cream. DO NOT boil it.
- Pour the heated heavy cream over the chocolate. Let it sit for 1-2 minutes so the chocolate will soften.
- Then use a rubber spatula to combine the chocolate and cream. Once the ganache is silky smooth, it’s ready to pour over the cooled cake.
